3D Dental Image

Viewing an object in three dimensions provides a vastly different picture than a two dimensional view. This is especially true with dental x rays. Technology has been advancing rapidly over the past several years to produce a machine that would capture images that are extremely precise. Dental cone beam images are similar to the medical CAT scan images but require only about a tenth of the radiation. The cost is only a fraction of what a CAT scan image would cost. These machines are still quite expensive and consequently not found in most dental offices. They are available to anyone seeking such an image through some of the offices that have had them installed. These images open a whole new world to procedures like implant placement. The practitioner can precisely plan implant placement to avoid injuries to nerves,  sinuses, adjacent teeth and other structures. Custom made surgical guides can enable extremely accurate placement. These , images can also aid the dentist to solve difficult root canal problems and see the whole picture in difficult surgical situations. Root fractures can be detected and gum/bone defects can become evident. This amazing new technology is rapidly changing the scope of dentistry for the better. We at Lowry Dental have been using and expanding our abilities with this extraordinary technology for over a year now.
